Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Newman Medical simpleABI-600CL?

The simpleABI-600CL is a PC-based, automated Doppler vascular testing system designed to diagnose peripheral artery disease (PAD). It performs multi-level ABI, Toe Brachial Index (TBI), exercise ABI, treadmill stress testing (CPT 93924), and ABI-Q PVR rapid screening — making it the most comprehensive system in the Newman Medical Cuff-Link lineup.

What is the difference between the simpleABI-500CL and simpleABI-600CL?

The simpleABI-500CL performs multi-level resting ABI and ABI-Q PVR screening. The simpleABI-600CL adds exercise ABI testing and treadmill stress testing (CPT 93924) for symptomatic patients whose resting ABI is normal or borderline — ensuring PAD is not missed in that critical population.

What CPT codes does the simpleABI-600CL support?

The simpleABI-600CL supports three billable CPT codes: 93922 (Doppler ABI + TBI), 93923 (multi-level segmental studies and exercise ABI with provocative maneuvers), and 93924 (treadmill stress testing, multi-level). These codes apply in outpatient, office-based, and specialty clinic settings.

Who should use the simpleABI-600CL?

The simpleABI-600CL is best suited for vascular labs, cardiology practices, and specialty clinics needing full multi-level and exercise PAD evaluation. It is particularly valuable for clinics treating symptomatic patients with normal resting ABI, diabetic patients with calcified arteries, and pre/post-interventional vascular assessment.

Why is exercise ABI testing important for PAD diagnosis?

Exercise ABI detects PAD that is hidden at rest. Patients with claudication symptoms but a normal or borderline resting ABI may only reveal abnormal arterial pressures after physical exertion. Without exercise testing, these patients risk being misdiagnosed or undertreated.

Can I perform ABI-Q PVR testing on the simpleABI-600CL?

Yes. The 600CL includes ABI-Q exam software, enabling rapid 1–2 minute PVR-based PAD screening without Doppler. You can switch seamlessly between multi-level Doppler ABI and ABI-Q rapid screening — ideal for diabetic patients or those with calcified arteries where standard Doppler readings are unreliable.

Does the simpleABI-600CL support DICOM or EHR integration?

DICOM software is available as an optional add-on. Reports can be stored and exported in PDF, TIFF, CSV, BMP, and JPG formats, supporting integration with most clinic documentation and imaging workflows. Contact Newman Medical to discuss specific EHR compatibility.
